Whatever Things Are Good

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
The Greek word for think in this passage not only means to think cognitively about something, but it also means to take inventory, estimate, number, reason, or take account of. It also means to determine, purpose, or decide–to consider and meditate on.
I love these specific definitions because we cannot just passively think about whatever comes to our minds;
we must actively determine and decide to count our blessings.
We need to consider and meditate on the goodness and excellence of God and take into account that which is true, good and right.
If we are thinking thoughts that are not true, those thoughts have no business taking up space in our minds.
We must count up, measure, and take inventory of our thoughts.
